Minutes for the CTLA Meeting of April 5, 2003
Follett Library Resources hosted our CTLA meeting. The meeting was held at the University of Illinois-Chicago campus, 712 S. Halsted, Room 214 from 9am-1pm.
CTLA election took place for the 2003-2004 school year. Those slated were:
Members voted Barbara Gibson as corresponding secretary and all other officers slated for 2003-2004.
We shared ideas about creative projects in library and poetry. Follett representative, David Brooks, gave a demonstration on Curriculum Titlewave. Titlewave is the most powerful on-line collection development and curriculum support tool available. It is fast, easy and free. Just log onto www.titlewave.com to register. Marge Fashing gave the History Moment on clearing the collection. Vera Bunting donated a book called Public School of Chicago which gave two main purposes of the elementary school library: (1) to read books, and (2) to be a storage room for textbooks. The copyright date was 1935. We had 441 elementary schools at that time. We have 575 elementary schools now. Forty of them have no libraries or library-on-carts.
Professional development day was used for networking. We had an open forum for ideas, which worked very well. Lauren Garcia submitted ideas on introduction to poetry for 8th grade Teachers. Many other ideas were also given.
Our next meeting will be May 17th at Galleria Marchetti. We will inaugurate officers and honor retirees.
