Minutes for the CTLA Meeting of December 12, 2009
The meeting was hosted by Maureen Arthur and Gerry Torrence of Heinemann Books at Pompei Restaurant on Taylor St. A wonderful buffet breakfast was served.
Tatiana Novy called the meeting to order at 9:45. Minutes were read by Althea Johnson and posted on our website. Charles Gunn gave a membership report and reminded us about our website that he keeps up-to-date. Edie Sokolnicki gave the Treasurer's Report saying our balance is $4,709 as of November 30.
K. C. Boyd made announcements on behalf of the Department of Libraries. She reminded us about the Matching Grant current deadlines this month; points will be deducted for late apps. In addition, the program will be evaluated using the Danielson Rubric tool to best monitor librarian success. Check their website for all the details. In addition, K. C. highlighted the Best of the Best all-day event at the Harold Washington CPL main library featuring Laura Bush; you must pre-register.
Maureen introduced all of their new and exciting books, including on-line versions. She especially highlighted new books for struggling readers. In addition, she showcased Angela Davis, a CPS teacher, who has a holiday book and DVD for sale.
Our very own Gwen Hilary shared the holiday spirit and her message of preserving our earth and rain forests! She read poetry and stories, such as Sharing Peace. Gwen was joined by Enoch Williamson, a fusion musician of African rhythms and influences.
The meeting ended with a raffle of beautiful gifts. When Maureen visits your school, she will bring additional gifts, including sample books.
The meeting adjourned at 11:25.
