Minutes for the CTLA Meeting of January 22, 2005

The meeting was sponsored by the Children’s Plus, Inc. at the Marriott Chicago Downtown, 625 S. Ashland.  Children’s Plus offers many benefits to your library: free shipping, free unattached processing, convenient order placement including online 24/7 ordering.  We were given prize drawings and free book samples with a delicious hot breakfast.

Media classes for library is being offered in Aurora at www.imsa.edu.

The Department of Libraries’ area librarians gave an update on activities for school librarians including matching grants and waver purchases.  The ALA meeting will be held in Chicago this year, June 23-29.  Apply before March 5 for early registration at ALA.org.  Volunteers are wanted.  At www.childrensplusinc.com literature, all kinds of material for teacher are available.

You will be getting a matching grant letter and a library card letter.  The new librarians will be posted on the web site.  There is no search for a new director of libraries.

 Get a waver for material not received from Baker and Taylor. Submit this waver by May 1st to get your materials. Librarians will be given permission to order from anyone you wish with a waiver. You should have the students utilize our databases we have paid for so that we may keep them.

The meeting was turn over to Keven Walsh of Children’s Plus.  He stated that they hand make and sew there books which are 100% guaranteed with all free processing.

Scott Wilson, sales manager of the Dusable Museum, said that the museum is interactive with students and uses children literature.  We watched a video about the museum.  This is a resource to help the librarian. 

Paul Whitsitt from the Department of Libraries said that we will apply with the University of Chicago for a digital resource in the library.  Give names of retirees to Gail Johnson at 773-535-3887.
