Minutes for the CTLA Meeting of June 3, 2006
The CTLA meeting of June 3, 2006 was sponsored by the members of the CTLA at the beautiful Tasty Buffet Restaurant, located 3556 E. 118th Street, Chicago, IL. 60617 from 11am. – 2pm. A $10.00 fee was required. This end-of-year retirement luncheon honored our retires: Jean A. Halsey, Shirley J. Silverman, Nancy J. Skiersch, Mary Anne Zielinski, Margaret A. Fashing, and Mary Susan Loftus.
The menu included a salad bar with fresh seafood offerings; made-to-order sushi; choose-your-own stirfry cooked in front of you; grilled steaks/ribs; desert bar; soup bar; all-you-can-eat buffet with beef, pork, chicken, seafood, and vegetarian offerings; soft drinks/tea/coffee.
Gail Johnson is stepping down as president. Irish Bain, our new president of 2006-2007 school year, opened the meeting. She announced that our new officers for 2006-07 will be installed at our next meeting in September. She stated that we need to change how we interact with our vendors and our beloved retired members.
Our retirees were presented with a certificate from the Department of Libraries and gifts from both the Department of Libraries and the CTLA. Each retiree made a brief statement of gratitude and appreciation. They mentioned that if a student says school is boring than you are boring; In the elementary school you did not have time to go to the bathroom; You put up with issues and that you are all doing a great job; "I am somebody" is said everyday in one library. When Marge announced to her class that she was retiring, the 8th graders ask to set on the floor to hear one more story. We need to encourage more to become members of the CTLA. The treasurer reported an ending balance of $4,299.42.
Mr. Paul Whitsitt, of the Department of Libraries, announced that the department is not being cut back. They are working this summer and they are planning summer special development for the summer school libraries. The new strategic sourcing book vendors process is being driven by the purchasing department. The principals, AIOs, office of literacy, teacher-librarians, and area librarians have formed a good team of people. The Board will decide the new list of approved book vendors at their July meeting.
