President Mary Hebda "passes the torch" to Annie Culverson as V.P. (and 08-09 President) at our opening meeting on September 29 hosted by Rainbow Book Company based in Lake Zurich. Also pictured is Maude Muhammad, Recording Secretary. Other officers were also standing with candles at the installation ceremony.

At right, Mary Hebda is pictured with Rainbow Books' Chicago reps. Mickey Simmons and John Vana, along with President Mark Sherman and V.P. David Sherman. The meeting was held at the Hyatt in University Village.

Mark Sherman, Rainbow Books President, emphasizes his company's attention to customer satisfaction with the 50+ publishers they represent. They stock all the new copyrights and will bring them to schools for evaluation and easy ordering.

Jamie Gilson, children's author and humorist, traces how she got her idea for each of her 19 books, most based in Illinois.
Our October meeting was hosted by Turk Glazebrook and Ione Graves of Perma-Bound Books at the Parrot Cage Restaurant in the South Shore Cultural Center. The special program were “The Spatulatta Sisters”, authors of the Spatulatta Cookbook, who blended books with cooking and children. Pictured are the two sisters and their mom as they teach and sample "cooking 4 kids"!

Kori Kubitz welcomed us to "Game Night" at the National Italian-American Sports Hall of Fame for an all-star evening with reception in the museum, full dinner in the ballroom, and a multi-media presentation of her impressive product line. She treated us all to a bag of books, plus raffle prizes galore from stuffed animals to sports souvenirs to valuable gift certificates. Everyone left a "winner"!

Maureen Arthur and Gerry Torrence (left) of Heinemann Raintree host the December meeting at the Marriott– Medical District. They showcased their books and full catalog and emphasized their school workshops for parents. Marge Fashing (above) reads a favorite holiday story "December 24th" by Denys Cazet. Below, Ann Adams shares websites and curriculum tips.

Children's Plus hosted our January meeting at Maggiano's with keynote speaker Lester Laminack. Below is the Chicago Children's Plus team led by Dan Walsh, owner, and Kevin Walsh, President, joined by Lester along with Mary Hebda.

Our March meeting was hosted by Follett Library Resources and their team of five account managers (below right) at the UIC Union at 750 S. Halsted. Annie Culverson (at left), Vice-President, called the meeting to order after a great breakfast. Andy Larson (below) highlighted Follett's trusted reputation as "the largest supplier of books, eBooks, and audiovisual materials to K-12 schools". They are based in McHenry, IL with a 470,000 sq. ft. facility. Follett began in 1873 in Wheaton.
Andy Larson also highlighted Follett's industry-leading web tools for library collecton management "Titlewave" and then gave a quiz with a student response system (remote clickers) by Quizwork.com.
