Our September meeting was hosted by Rainbow Books at the Marriott at Medical District/UIC. Immediate Past President Mary Hebda (at mic) starts off the Installation Ceremony of New Officers next to Annie Culverson, President, Tatiana Richardson, V. P., and Natalie Zaccagnini, Corresp. Sec. Above, Author/Illustrator Bob Raczka discusses his career path from college graduation as an art major to graphic design with advertising to writing ten children's books. He also speaks at schools. Everyone received his newest book Name That Style: All About Isms in Art,which he signed. Below, Bob addresses a full room as everyone enjoyed a complete breakfast.

Above, Author W. Nikola-Lisa reads his book Shake Dem Halloween Bones, and all received a hardcover copy. He said a book is like a play by setting the stage and including the beginning, middle, and end with a quick exit. He has written 20 children's books and said the production of a book takes about six years. He was the speaker at our October meeting, hosted by Ione Graves of Perma-Bound Books at the newly remodeled Professional Library at Medill PTC. Below, she awards raffle prizes.

Kori Kubitz and associate Jo Ann Flournoy hosted our November meeting at Connie's Restaurant on Archer Ave. on a Wednesday for a night out! Everyone received seven complimentary books thanks to the awesome generosity of Kori and her publishers. One of her publishers is Weigl, and its President Linda Weigl joined us as a special guest and gave everyone a copy of Barack Obama ©2009! Below, Linda highlights her company catalog and her attention to customer satisfaction, while Kori presents her PowerPoint slideshow that featured many star books and series, including graphic novels on on-line books.

At left, two lucky raffle prize winners won both the Library Lion book and a plush lion stuffed animal. Above, Merril Stegall, Area Librarian, reported news from the Department of Libraries, including the agreement with The Library Company to handle all CPS library automation services. The automation will be phased in over five years starting now with pilot schools. The Library Company also handles all CPL library automation. CTLA Pres. Annie Culverson assists Merril with the mic.

Maureen Arthur of Heinemann Raintree hosted our December meeting at Pompei Restaurant on Taylor St. Maureen showcased her books on display with summaries and their great appeal. Below left, Maureen reviews her catalog, which was distributed to all. Below right, President Annie Culverson encourages all to give "Good News to Share" for best practice tips and lessons.

Doreen Rappaport (above) addresses a full Amarone Room at Maggiano's Little Italy Restaurant downtown at our January meeting hosted by Children's Press and their leadership team. Doreen has written 18 non-fiction books on civil rights leaders and social justice issues. All 160 present received her signed copies of Martin's Big Words and Lady Liberty: A Biography!
Children's Plus Chicago leadership team pledge a strong commitment to Chicago librarians and school literary by hosting another gala meeting with a full three-course feast of all the Maggiano favorites. Kevin is joined by CTLA President Annie Culverson and by CPS Dept. of Libraries and Info. Services Director Paul Whitsitt as Doreen personalizes copies of her books. At right, Doreen recounts her experiences as a teacher at a freedom school in Mississippi in the 1960s that inspired her to reveal untold stories of human perseverance for equality and justice for all!

Follett Library Resources hosted our March meeting at the UIC Union. Follett is fully staffed with five account managers, two area managers, plus a dedicated CPS service rep. by phone to provide maximum customer support. Above, account manager Derrek Lyons demonstrates their state-of-the-art website for collection development, including reference lists to all book awards for easy ordering. Below, account manager Andy Larson leads a fun interactive quiz game and highlights some A/V resources.
